The difference is in how sound is stored
MP3 removes audio information using perceptual compression. WAV is a container; our WAV downloads contain uncompressed 16-bit PCM samples. This makes WAV predictable for editing, while MP3 is easier to share.
File size in real numbers
A minute of 44.1 kHz, 16-bit, stereo PCM needs about 10.6 MB, before a small header. One minute at a constant 192 kbps needs about 1.44 MB. Duration and channel count matter as well as format.
Choose around your next step
Use WAV when an editor or delivery specification asks for PCM. Keep a lossless master while making changes. Use MP3 for a smaller listening copy when compatibility matters. Converting MP3 to WAV does not reverse earlier compression.
A sensible workflow
Keep the original, make your edits once, then export the final listening copy. Repeated MP3-to-MP3 conversions can accumulate artifacts. Compare a short, familiar passage before committing to a long batch.
